BIOGRAPHY

 

Latisha Fortune is an award-winning independent producer, writer, director and filmmaker with over 20 years of experience. Currently, Producer on Kingdom Business and The Ms Pat Show, Fortune is the founder of TV/Film production company, Great Fortune Films and executive producer of Talk/Variety Show Social Society (2021-2022), feature film Really Love (2020), and Family Portrait (2023), AllBlk’s upcoming first original film.

Fortune began her production career working in the Media and Creative Arts Department in a mega church as an intern, and in just 2 years, worked her way up to becoming a stage manager, learning the basics of television production and live events. After being laid off from her corporate telecommunications job, she took a chance and decided to invest her severance package in television and film production classes. Her decision paid off when she landed an internship at the inception of Tyler Perry Studios, working on the set of Madea’s Family Reunion (2005). It was there that Fortune discovered her passion and calling for filmmaking. She quickly became an invaluable asset to Roger Bobb, Executive Vice President of Tyler Perry Studios and became his executive assistant. In this role, she had the opportunity to work on Daddy’s Little Girls (2006), Why Did I Get Married (2007), Meet the Browns (2007), as well as House of Payne (2005-2008) where she eventually came to serve as Assistant Production Coordinator for season 3 of the sitcom. After 3 years of hands-on experience, Fortune gained a wealth of invaluable knowledge on managing films and TV series while working as Studio Office Manager and Executive Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer of Tyler Perry Studios, Oscar Turner. With a hunger for hands on production, Latisha segued back into set life for various major studios as the Assistant Production Coordinator for the Oscar nominated film, The Blind Side (2009).  Since then, Fortune has credits as Production Coordinator for several films and TV shows such as ACOD (2012), The Start Up (2013), The Red Road (2014), Solace (2015), Survivor’s Remorse (2015), Cell (2016) and All Eyez on Me (2017). She was then promoted into Production Management and served as Production Supervisor for Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge and Michel’le (2016), The Quad (2016-2017), The Bobby Brown Story (2018), and American Soul (2018-2019).

In 2020, she accepted a Production Executive role for Dae Light Media and transitioned into overseeing and producing various shows for the company such as Games People Play (2021), Kingdom Business (2022-2023) and The Ms Pat Show (2020-2023).

 

Through Latisha’s film production company, Great Fortune Films, she stands as a rising filmmaker and emerging thought leader in the industry, having produced over a dozen short films and TV pilots, three of which have won industry awards. Her short Standing Reign was awarded ‘Best Film of Atlanta’ in the 48 Hour Film Festival, ‘Best Short’ in the TOMI Film Festival of New Orleans, ‘Best Narrative Short’ in the International Black Film Festival of Nashville and was also chosen for distribution on the “Best of 48 Hour Film Project 2007” DVD. In 2008, she co-wrote and produced Before I Wake which won The Doorpost Film Festival. She is also a two-time finalist in the 2010 BET Lens on Talent Film Contest for Before I Wake and The Black Cage

In 2014, Great Fortune Films produced the short film The End Again, which is the prequel to the feature film, REALLY LOVE. The End Again screened at the Urbanworld Film Festival, Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Black Star Film Festival Hollyshorts Film Festival, Langston Hughes Film Festival and Florence Short Film Showcase. In the following year, Latisha directed and produced, Twiin, a doc-reality series that explores the doppelganger theory which aired on CBS Atlanta. Her diverse work experience and insight in the TV/film production field has established her as a sought-after speaker at several industry events including ABFF, Creating Film in Atlanta and Bronze Lens Film Festival.

In addition to Great Fortune Films Academy, an intensive training and mentoring initiative for up-and-coming TV and film professionals, Great Fortune Films has several projects in development including Her Imperial Majesty, Absconded, Under the Apple Tree, Dckless, Hunger and While We’re Young.

Latisha studied Business Management at The Kings College, producing at New York University and Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. She is also an advisory board member of Women in Film and Television Atlanta (WITFA) and a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA).
